We're updating initial margin and position limits on perpetual futures
Effective Sunday, 23 August 2026, 12:00 AM IST
From 12:00 AM IST on Sunday, 23 August, we are updating the following for perpetual futures on Delta Exchange India:
- The initial margin is being revised. Initial margin is the amount you put up to open a position. Initial margin and maximum leverage move together, so maximum leverage is changing on some contracts as a result. On most perpetual contracts, maximum leverage stays as it is.
- Position limits are moving from the number of contracts to notional value in USD. Today, each contract caps you at a maximum number of contracts. From 23 August, it caps you at a maximum position value in dollars — so on BTCUSD, a limit of 125,000 contracts becomes $5,000,000.
Your open positions are not affected. The new numbers apply to new orders only. Options are not part of this update.
Changes to maximum leverage
Please note BTC and ETH stay at 200x. SOL, XRP, XAUT, and PAXG stay at 100x.
New position limits
To check a specific contract, visit this link: https://www.delta.exchange/contracts
Every contract's details page shows its Max Leverage, Initial Margin (%), Maintenance Margin (%), and Position Limit. The updated values will be live there from 23 August.
What happens to your open positions
Existing positions carry on unchanged. Nothing is recalculated, and the initial margin already blocked against them stays as it is.
If a position is already above the new limit for that contract, it stays open — you simply cannot add to it in the same direction until it is back under the limit.
Orders resting on the book are evaluated against the new configuration when they execute, so review large open orders before Sunday's session.
