We are updating the way funding payments are exchanged between long and short positions in perpetual contracts. This change is designed to improve transparency, predictability, and alignment with global best practices.
What’s Changing
1. New Funding Schedule
Funding schedule depends upon product rate exchange interval.
For example Funding payments for BTCUSD will now occur three times a day at the following times (IST):
What’s Changing
1. New Funding Schedule
Funding schedule depends upon product rate exchange interval.
For example Funding payments for BTCUSD will now occur three times a day at the following times (IST):
- 5:30 AM
- 1:30 PM
- 9:30 PM
Please note:
- While the schedule is broadly every 8 hours, exact intervals may vary depending on the product such as 1 hour/2hours/4 hours etc...
- Users should always verify the funding schedule directly on the trading interface.
2. Real-Time Funding Rate Calculation
• The funding rate will be calculated continuously in real time.
• However, the actual exchange of funding will occur at fixed intervals:
• 1 hour
• 4 hours
• 8 hours
(depending on the specific contract)
3. Variable Funding Intervals
Some perpetual contracts may have funding intervals shorter than 8 hours.
- These variations are product-specific, so users are encouraged to check contract details within the UI.
Important Ramifications
1. Transaction Logs
- Funding payments will be recorded around:
- 5:30 AM
- 1:30 PM
9:30 PM (IST)
- A delay of ~5–10 minutes may occur before entries appear in your transaction logs.
- This delay is normal and does not affect the actual funding calculation.
2. Position Snapshots
- At each funding time (05:30, 13:30, 21:30 IST), the system takes a snapshot of all open positions.
How it works:
If your position is open during the snapshot:
You will pay or receive funding depending on:
The funding rate (positive/negative)
Whether you are long or short
If your position is not present in the snapshot:
If your position is open during the snapshot:
You will pay or receive funding depending on:
The funding rate (positive/negative)
Whether you are long or short
If your position is not present in the snapshot:
- You will not be charged or credited funding
Key Timing Considerations:
- Closing just before funding time → You avoid funding
- Opening just before funding time → You may immediately pay or receive funding
- Holding duration no longer matters between funding intervals
3. Asynchronous Trading Systems
The platform operates on asynchronous systems.
As a result:
- Trades executed very close to funding times may appear out of order in logs.
- For example, funding entries may appear before or after trade entries.
This is expected behavior and does not impact actual balances or calculations.
